Vintage materials and pattern, modern made!
I found this gorgeous fabric at the thrift and knew I had to make something big! I drafted a pattern for a gathered-hip dress with multi-way shoulder ties using a vintage skirt pattern and a simple bodice block, and it couldn't have turned out better!
This salmon pink fabric is pretty heavy with a beautiful shimmer in the light. The wavy pattern on the fabric is called moiré. I'm not 100% sure how old this fabric is since it was thrifted, but a burn/dissolve test revealed it to be rayon. I would guess the fabric could be 80s vintage since rayon moiré was popular around that time! The zipper and bias tape I used on the seams were from my vintage stash and both turned out to be from the 80s as well!
This ~kinda~ vintage gown would be perfect for your next formal event if your're looking for something unique! It could even be used as a Glinda cosplay!
I also made a rough bum roll shown in the second-to-last picture to add volume in the hip. It is adjustable and I will include it at no cost if you like!
