How are your products/services sustainable?

I believe in saving unwanted textiles and doing everything I can to make sure I produce as little textile waste as possible. I will often alter or rework pieces from my own and friends' closets to make them new and wearable again, and I will mend my own and friends' clothes over and over until they cannot be worn (at which point they will either be reworked or added to the scrap bin). Any scraps generated from my projects will be sorted by content and size and be used as rags, washcloths, patchwork panels for new makes, stuffing for pillows, you name it.

As the sewist-next-door, I am often receiving unwanted stashes of fabric and notions from friends and acquaintances. I also love thrifting clothes and home decor like sheets, curtains, tablecloths, etc., so most of my work is made with secondhand materials.

In some cases, a project might require me to buy new fabric. When this happens, I do my best to find fabric within my price range that is certified to be made sustainably and fairly, and if that fails I will look for deadstock or surplus fabric.

And of course as I've mentioned, I offer tailoring/alterations and mending, which takes existing clothes and makes them wearable for longer and out of the landfill!

How do you ship orders?

Shipping is calculated by weight of items in your order. I use USPS standard shipping, which comes with $100 of insurance in case something is to happen during shipping. This method takes anywhere from 3 to 10 business days depending on your location. If you need something sooner, please feel free to contact me and we can work out a different shipping method.

On top of my efforts to waste less fabric, I also reuse packaging and shipping items. I keep a bin of mailers, boxes, bubble wrap and packing paper from things I myself have ordered, as well as paper grocery and shopping bags. Your orders will be packed in the best fitting option I have in my stash and sent on to you!
